Anime is an ever-expanding genre, with a continuous influx of new material to cater to its steadily growing fanbase. However, this arrangement does have its drawbacks, as some exceptional shows may not receive the appreciation they truly deserve.
One such show is Goblin Slayer, a dark fantasy masterpiece. While it garnered considerable admiration from the audience and secured a devoted fanbase, it is unfortunate that it did not receive the full extent of recognition it merited.
Goblin Slayer, adapted from a mini-novel series that also spawned a successful manga, premiered in October 2018 and concluded in December of the same year, comprising a total of twelve episodes.
The narrative revolves around an armored man on a vengeful mission to eradicate every goblin from existence. The story commences with a priestess joining an adventuring party, which tragically goes awry, leading to the demise of her entire team, save for her salvation by the enigmatic figure known as the Goblin Slayer. Once an ordinary man, the Goblin Slayer’s life took a dire turn when his village suffered a ghastly goblin attack, resulting in the loss of his family and the obliteration of his village. Solely surviving the calamity, he vowed to annihilate the goblin menace.
Devoting five years to rigorous training under a master, he honed the skills necessary for his crusade and embarked on his quest, slaying numerous goblins, earning him the esteemed title of a silver-ranked adventurer. The valiant Goblin Slayer, wary of expensive equipment that might fall into goblin hands upon his demise, forgoes their use in battles.
The series also gave rise to a film released in February 2020, which, regrettably, did not garner a favorable reception from the audience.
As for the highly anticipated Goblin Slayer Season 2, fans have been yearning for its release since the conclusion of the first season, encouraged by the promise of its return in the season’s finale. Nevertheless, there has been no official announcement from the creators regarding the show’s progress or release date. Though it is inevitable that the second season will eventually grace our screens, as previously declared, there has been no further update on its development.
The second season holds the potential to address unresolved questions from the first, including the fate of Goblin Slayer’s mission and his contemplation of the existence of benevolent goblins. It may also delve into how the presence of the priestess impacts the life of Goblin Slayer, building on the foundations laid in the initial season.
While no trailers or updates have been shared regarding the second season, it is reasonable to assume that the actors from the first season will reprise their roles. Notably, Yuichiro Umehara as Goblin Slayer and Yui Ogura as Priestess are expected to lead the cast, supported by other talented actors.
Despite the prolonged wait, the prospect of Goblin Slayer Season 2 remains promising due to its vast source material, with over thirteen volumes in the mini-novel series and continuing. Furthermore, the show has enjoyed substantial success with its novel, manga, and merchandise sales, all of which bode well for the potential of the second season’s production, ideally seeing it grace our screens by the end of 2021, provided the pandemic allows for smooth production.
